Before choosing, try on the shoe at the end of the day, when your foot is swollen, with the walking socks you usually wear. This page brings together men's models in low, mid and high tops, waterproof or breathable, for walking as well as for mountain trails.
The foot lengthens and widens throughout the day and during activity. A shoe tried in the morning may seem perfect but become tight after a few hours of walking. Lace them up completely, walk a few steps, then simulate a descent: your toes should not touch the front and your heel should not lift. If you're unsure between two sizes, go for the one that feels most comfortable at the front.
A walker who does loops all day on marked trails will be comfortable in low, lightweight and flexible shoes. Someone who alternates between easy paths and rocky passages will find a good compromise with mid-height shoes. For a trek with camping or a high-altitude route, high shoes with a firm sole provide better ankle support under load. The waterproof filter helps decide based on the season.
adidas offers its Terrex range in all heights, Élémenterre has versatile models, Trezeta and La Sportiva provide shoes for the mountains and trekking, while Regatta and Kimberfeel have pairs for everyday hiking.
To target a height, check out the low shoes, mid shoes or high shoes. In summer, hiking sandals keep your feet cool, and walking shoes are great for strolling. To equip the rest of the family, check out the women's shoes and children's shoes, or the shoes page that groups everything together.
Discounts on shoes are collected on the Black Friday shoes page during the event. The hiking clearance and hiking sales then offer end-of-collection items. For the latest arrivals, go to the new arrivals.
Some hikers have wide feet or a pronounced instep. In this case, compare several brands, as each builds its shoes on a different shape. The mixed models on the page sometimes offer a bit more volume. If you use orthotic insoles, bring them for the fitting and remove the original insole: your foot should be supported without being cramped. Skipping an eyelet in lacing over the top of the foot relieves pressure while maintaining heel support. Once you’ve found the right fit, note the brand and size to simplify your next purchase.
A low or mid height shoe, comfortable right from the fitting, with a grippy sole. It covers most marked paths.
If your toes touch the front when descending or if your foot feels cramped on the sides, choose the next size up.
A bit more than an airy model, which is an advantage in cool weather but a disadvantage in the heat.
It depends on the model. A soft low shoe is often ready right away, while a rigid high shoe needs a few short outings.
